We do this through captivating positive-impact stories, visually rich hotel features, interviews, discriminating social media posts, CityKITs, and curated itineraries. Ultimately, we bring hotels and tour operators the right type of guest — one with an appreciation for aesthetics, a nose for the offbeat, and a soft spot for hotels and tours that make a difference in their local communities and environment. 

What determines a fit?

  • We know what we like when we see it and feel it. We’re keen on originality, beauty, and personality. We muck around in small boutiquey inns, cutting-edge eco-houses, mobile tented safaris, farm stays, off-grid hideaways, and, on occasion, the swanky design hotels. We spotlight those that honor nature, enrich their surroundings, and prioritize eco-friendly design practices. Aside from the occasional splurge-worthy recommendations, we do not do luxury for luxury’s sake.

  • We seek out storied places and immersive experiences defined by sustainability. We do not view travel as an escape; rather, we see travel as an opportunity to develop meaningful connections with people, cultures, and nature. A chance to start conversations with passionate hoteliers, local artisans, social entrepreneurs, or designers who delight in spreading the eco-travel gospel. We relish the communal dinner, a locally-led street art tour, or perhaps a deep dive into a community-led initiative that spurs thinking, engagement, and action for good. 

  • We seek out those conservation-focused and community-sustaining destinations that are authentic and champion good causes. The Offbeat Goat does not offer complicated scorings or ratings but curates instead with a seasoned eye for stays and experiences moving the needle in sustainable travel. Envision a low-impact fly camp in Namibia, an off-grid geo-dome in the Arctic, a rhino-tagging gig at a safari camp, or a swanky design-led eco-hotel embracing recycled art as a vehicle for change.
